Welcome!
Welcome to the home page of Skepticon, one of the nation's largest annual skeptic events. The event this year will take place on Friday, November 19, Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21 at the Springfield Expo Center in Springfield, Missouri.
We've done our best to make sure all the information you could ever want, whether it is a description of the event, information on lodging, or how to donate, is easily accessible. For everything else, whether you just want to say hello or make some suggestions, there's a contact form.
Quote of the Moment
No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says; he is always convinced that it says what he means.

Thanks SSA! ...suckahs! (9/7/10)
We've received a lot of donations for Skepticon 3, which have enabled us to keep this shindig free to attend. One of the donations came in the form of a $1,000 grant from the Secular Student Alliance. Lauren and I made the following video to thank them (NSFW language).

New panel discussion! (9/7/10)
We already have D.J. Grothe moderating a panel discussion on Diplomacy vs. Firebrand as the best tactical approach toward advancing our cause.
As if that weren't enough good fortune, we've also landed Julia Galef, who moderated panels at TAM8, to moderate a second panel! So I thought I'd turn it over to you guys and see what you want to hear about. Figure out a topic or three that you'd be really interested to see discussed. Then check out the speakers and let us know which speakers you want to hear discuss it (you can't have PZ - his spot in the firebrand camp for the other panel is pretty much locked down).
Shoot us an email via the contact form or start a thread in the forums (which I will continue to monitor).
Also, check out our youtube channel and spread our promo vids around. Put them on your facebook, on your blog, etc. Local advertising starts soon and we're almost to 840 registrations!

Get registered
We're about to top 800 registrations. Here's the deal, we haven't done any local advertising yet. None. Zilch. Zero. No posters. No media appearances. Nada.
But we're about to. And when we do, we're going to get a huge local rush.
I've also found out today that the number of seats I was given for the new venue was incorrect. It's 1,800 seats if there is no stage set up...but there's going to be a stage, what with us having speakers and everything. That means there will be 1,500 seats. We will fill all those seats.
This means that this year there will be no walk-ins. If you want to get into Skepticon 3, you must register.
The good news is that the event is almost paid for. We're about $4,000 away from being in the black. If you've got some bucks lying around, please consider donating it.
We should have the Skepticon calendars to the printer this weekend and be able to ship them about a week after that. Sales from those will help tremendously. I'm sorry it's taking so long, but the calendars are a monstrous undertaking. They're still available for pre-order - just swing by the Skepticon shop. T-shirts will be arriving there shortly as well.
If you've got a blog or web site, or even if you just want to share them on facebook, there are promo vids for this event that would help us to get the word out. They are on our youtube channel.
Thanks everybody. We never dreamed this could get so big and we're working around the clock (literally, some nights) to make this event spectacular.

Share the word!
Good news! Thanks to a chap by the name of Adam Brown, Skepticon has some fliers that can go up in your neck of the woods!
Just head over to the Share Us page. Hand them out at skeptic meetings or put them up at your school!
And don't forget to check out the next Skepticon promotional video!

Registration
Last year we did not fill the venue for Skepticon 2. Because of that, people could just walk right in (hey, it's free, right?).
That will not be the case this year. We're on pace to have 1,600 registrations, which allows room for 200 walk-ins - and that's if our rate of registration doesn't increase (we anticipate that it will).
The long and short of it is that if you plan to attend Skepticon 3, you NEED to register. We are aware that we are probably going to have to turn some people away and we want to minimize this.
Thanks everybody!
